TEXAS SALAMANDER COALITION SENDS LETTER TO USFWS REQUESTING PEER REVIEW ON TAXONOMY OF SALAMANDERS

The Texas Salamander Coalition sent a letter Wednesday to the United States Fish & Wildlife Service (USF&WS) requesting a peer review of the taxonomy of the salamanders in Williamson County.  Base on a review of available scientific data and literature, the naming of the three salamander species is incorrect and that only one species of Eurycea occurs in Williamson County.

The letter also provides comments regarding a number of deficiencies in the proposed peer review plan for Four Central Texas Salamanders.   http://www.fws.gov/southwest/science/peerreview.html   USFWS has not publicized the peer review plan posted on website of the USFWS Regional Office in Albuquerque.
